What are the Edelman Grants?

The Office of Empowerment Schools is in a position to invite applications from individual Bronx and Manhattan teachers for mini-grants ranging from $100 to $5,000. These grants are designed to place much needed equipment and resources in classrooms for use directly with students.
Much like the Donors Choose program, Empowerment would like to provide teachers with the opportunity to supplement their work with resources the regular school budget is unable to accommodate.

What can teachers apply for?

Teachers can apply for commodities (not per-session, conferences, consultants, etc) ranging in price from $100 up to a maximum of $5,000, in the areas of Math, Science, ELA, Art, Music, P.E, and Technology. Items can include (but are not limited to):

·         Printers

·         Cameras

·         Textbooks

·         Reading books

·         Laptops

·         Netbooks

·         Microscopes

·         Digital Probes

·         Scanners

·         Video Cameras

·         Voice Recorders

·         Livesribe Pens

·         Response systems

Applications for band uniforms, field trips, general classroom furniture, printer toner, etc will not be considered. And again, this grant will not pay for teacher time (per-session)

We are asking that, where possible, an intrinsic tie-in be made to CEP goals, subject department goals, Inquiry Work, etc so as to create cohesive use of resources aligned to the work of the school as a whole.  If equipment is requested in isolation of these work areas, it is less likely to be selected as a successful application.

These grants encourange applications from individual teachers who have a clear need for additional reasources to be placed in their classroom for a specific long-term project, a plan of around Inquiry Work, a target to meet for the CEP goals, etc.
Applications will be available December 8, on the application website:
