What are the Goldie Anna Awards?

The Goldie Anna Awards for Excellence in Education are offered annually by the Office of Empowerment Schools to help identify some of the most innovative promising practices in our schools, and help share these practices. 

Funds are allocated to winning schools for the purpose of helping the collaborative, sharing process and can be used for a variety of purposes (equipment, per-session, consultants, conferences, etc)

Our aim is to replicate winning instructional practices and allow the creators of the winning proposals to share their work with other interested schools and teachers. 


Goldie Anna Teachers are:

  • Exceptional K-12 educators who are implementing innovative practices to improve teaching and learning
  • Creative pedagogues with the ability to mentor fellow teachers, and foster innovation
  • Willing to share their work for the benefit of other teachers and school communities

Goldie Anna Teachers are expected to:

  • Have full consent of their building leader to participate in the awards
  • Develop an "Implementation Plan." prior to the fall of 2010
  • Attend a 3 day Technology Academy (dates to be confirmed)
  • Attend a 1 day digital storytelling workshop on June 10 at Apple
  • Collaborate for 1 year on the implementation and development of their instructional model
  • Successfully mentor co-applicants.
  • Willingly and methodically adapt the identified instructional model of co-applicants
  • Actively participate in personal learning networks of likeminded teachers.
  • Share the impact of their work with networks, central teams, and their school community
  • Attend five 1-day workshops to create a series of digital shorts / vignettes

Goldie Anna Teachers receive:

  • $10,000 to be shared between applicant and co-applicant and can be used for per-session, conference attendance, use of consultants, equipment, materials, etc
  • 24 hours of per-session for the creation of the collegial Implementation Plan
  • Video Camera, Headset, Memory Card
  • A 3 day technology academy hosted by Google and Pearson Education
  • Invitations to join Empowerment at conferences and special events.
Timeline
 
  • Applications available - April 14, 2010
  • Applications due - May 26, 2010
  • Winners announced - June 7, 2010
  • Kick-Off event at Apple - June 10, 2010 (this is the Chancellor's Conference day
  • Planning process - April through June, 2010
  • Implementation of work - September, 2010 through June, 2011
Ongoing documentation of work will ne required throughout the 2010/2011 school year.

    Winning applicants will become part of an elite group of educators recognized for their outstanding instructional practices, and ability to impact student learning in ways that traditonally go unoticed.
